The Didactical
Means
The didactic means are an element necessary in any form of
school apprenticeship. They are used to convey the knowledge transmitted by the
teacher to his pupils, and to put the theoretical aspect of his/her teaching
into practice.
The means placed at the disposal of the teacher by the
technology of the modern world, their objectives and their instructions require
the consultation of specialized work, and perhaps even a particular formation.
The trainee teacher will thus find here only summary
information in connection with the means available, according to cases, in the
high-schools:
a) The library: the trainee teacher will have to visit
initially in order to know the works available, and to direct its pupils towards
their reading.
b) laboratories: they require also a visit at the school
re-entry to get informed about the apparatuses, instruments, products, etc
available and to control the state of the installations.
c) workshops: should also make the object of a visit of
information and inspection.
d) audio-visual means: in certain schools, could be regarded
as a luxury, considering their price (video tape recorder, television set,
overhead projector, microcomputers, etc.)
The electrical equipments must be tested before their use in
class.
Before closing the discussion of this fundamental subject, it
is interesting to attract the attention of the trainee teacher on the
possibility of creating a didactic material bank within the school with the
joint efforts all teachers.
Indeed, if all the teachers agreed to share all documentation
and the means, they have at their disposal with their colleagues; such a bank
would certainly see the light. The administration would guarantee the protection
of the materials offered by the teachers and would contact other schools in
order to carry out exchanges and thus enrich the contents of the bank which
could be very diversified:
- sound recordings
- video recordings, films and slides
- drawings, photographs, engravings, charts, etc.
- entertaining activities: plays, puzzles, etc.
- reviews, newspapers, booklets, etc.
- homeworks subjects, tests, examinations (baccalaureate),
etc.
